Battalion 50 arrived on the scene within minutes of the initial dispatch reporting heavy fire and smoke showing from the residence. Engine 51 stretched and Rescue 51 established RIT while Ladder 41 dropped a 600 ft. supply line to Engine 51. Engine 52 and Truck 42 arrived on the scene and starting ventilating, opening up, checking for extension and completed the secondary search.

Engine 51 made a good stop confining the spread of the fire to the room of origin and the adjacent room. Crews remained on the scene for most of the morning while the State Fire Marshall’s Office completed their investigation.

According to a news interview given to the Fort Myers News Press:

“The state fire marshal has ruled the fire that erupted this morning at 16816 Flamingo Rd. in San Carlos Park as accidental. “They believe the fire was started by a child playing with matches on top of the bed on the north side bedroom,” San Carlos Park Fire spokeswoman Alexis Rothring said. “The youngest boy did not call 911,” she clarified. “I do not know who called 911. “He did get them up and get them out of the house.” She said it’s believed the youngest boy was playing with matches.”
