Engine 52, Engine 51, Ladder 63 and Battalion 50 First Due to Multiple Construction Trailers on Fire on Alico Road
July 27th 2010 – Just after 1800 hours communications alerted Engine 52, Engine 51, Ladder 63, Battalion Chief 50, and Medic 9 to respond to a report of a mobile home fire in the area of Alico Road at James Whitehead Road. Upon arrival on the scene Engine 52 reported a working fire involving multiple modular construction trailers.
Battalion Chief 50 established the San Carlos Command requesting Rescue 51 and Ladder 53 into the scene while Engine 62 and Ladder 41 were moved up to cover the 50th Battalion. The crews on scene laid over 1500’ of 5” hose and placed several handlines, exposure lines, and two ladder pipes into operation during the incident. Ladder 41 and Engine 71 were alerted to respond into the scene while Engine 24 was relocated to the 50th Battalion for coverage.
As the incident progressed Battalion Chief 40, Estero Chief 2, South Trail Chief 3, San Carlos Chief 5, Engine 62, Estero PIO, Rehab 43, Tanker 44, Engine 75, Engine 24, Medic 8, and the West MEDCOM all responded into the scene for work.
Crews operated for nearly four hours to extinguish and overhaul the multiple construction trailers. Over 20 neighboring trailers were saved by the quick actions of all on scene. Most units returned to service by 2200 hours while a few units remained on the scene overnight to monitor the scene. Battalion Chief 20 and Bonita Chief 3 provided south area command for Battalion’s 20, 40, and 50 throughout the incident.
